Department Profile

History department is the second largest department in Karimpur Pannadevi college. It is an important and popular branch of Social Sciences. History was introduced as a general subject from the very beginning of the institution in 1968. But considering the growing demand it was promoted to Honours in 1997. Due to the valuable dedication and unending laboriousness of the ex-departmental teachers, the department has gained important academic prestige and popularity in the region. The department has produced some renowned alumni who are holding some chair of important academic offices and institutions of West Bengal. Now the Department has four young and energetic and one experienced teacher who always wants to help students. The aim of the department is to provide in-depth knowledge on this concern subject to the students and make them able to get self-dependent. Almost every year it has been a regular practice of the department that the 10-12 final year students of the departments attain 1st class. Some of them are able to include their name in the ranking list of the University of Kalyani for the UG level.
